SUBWOOFER The subwoofer system includes two balanced inputs with stereo filtered output connections for satelite systems. The variable crossover ranges from 60 – 160 Hz and can be defeated to offer stereo "loop thru" connections. A gain control and polarity reverse feature increases user control over the system.
The rear panel offers simple connection via 1/4 in. phone jacks or XLR’s. Full-range models feature two EQ settings, "Flat" and "Boost" for extra bass and brightened highs. Each full-range system has a level control as well as the ability to switch between a ‘mic’ and a ‘line’ level input.
DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING The Digital Signal Processor (DSP) incorporates in the Avant series provides unparalleled control over the audio signal. Critical parameters have been fine tuned for the specific configuration of each cabinet, yet their consistend sound "signature" allows them to perform seamlessly with other systems from the Avant family. Adding on in the future won’t be a problem.
The Avant speaker systems are protected by two types of limiters – an instantaneous peak limiter to safeguard the systems against spikes and a sonically transparent RMS limiter that controls excessive overpowering and thermal damage to components. This combination provides comprehensive protection for both the speaker components and signal electronics.
Why is Avant Portable Sound System a Better Choice?
Switch Mode Power Supply - The SMPS allows for a significant reduction in the total amplifier weight. Along with this significant reduction in weight is also a significant reduction in size. SMPS are a lot smaller than equivalent linear power supplies allowing for smaller total cabinet size and weight.
Amplifier Topology - Both D.A.S. and JBL use a Class D topology in both amplifier channels. The D.A.S. amplifier is a 3rd generation Class D technology which has significantly improved three important parameters, audio performance, efficiency and weight. Compared to other class topologies, the Class D amplifier has reduced power consumption, less heat build-up and smaller physical size. QSC and Mackie use less efficient Class H+AB and Class G+AB amplifier technologies respectively. The amplifier used on the QSC HPR series is adopted from their entry level RMX series manufactured in China. The D.A.S. Avant offers the highest power rating of its class, 600 W.
Signal Processing - D.A.S. and JBL use advanced digital signal processing (DSP) for unparalleled control over the audio signal. The DSP provides total flexibility over numerous parameters including crossover functions, equalization, time alignment, phase correction and dynamic limiting. Each speaker system is individually "fine-tuned" to provide optimum performance. The D.A.S. signal processing uses digital Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters that do not induce phase changes as do Analog filters. This provides a constant phase response which indicates perfect time alignment of all frequencies. D.A.S. offers variable cut-off frequency on subwoofer, others don’t.
Weight - The Avant series was designed for portability. Thanks to the use of Class D amplification, SMPS and driver components utilizing Neodymium magnet structures, the D.A.S. cabinets are significantly lighter than both the QSC and Mackie models. This is one of the most important attributes for "portable" systems.
Rigging Points - The Avant series is equipped with "hidden" rigging points designed to maintain the products good looks. The M10 rigging points are accessed by removing the small rubber pads situated in the stacking locators. JBL and Mackie do not have rigging points and according to the manufacturers, should not be suspended.
